Sustainability
in Action

Why We Do This

The UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. As a private equity firm with over 20 years of expertise in New York real estate and in investment and financing, New Land Capital takes on the role of trailblazer in the community development of Long Island City and sustainability proponent. Through the 'Sustainability in Action: Shaping the Cities of Tomorrow' summit series, New Land Capital is committed to transforming the goals of sustainable development from mere slogans into real action, encouraging the active involvement of all sectors of society.

As a coastal metropolis, NYC faces severe threats from climate change. Rising sea levels and extreme weather could cause significant environmental and economic damage.
Although NYC has made efforts to reduce carbon emissions, the size and demand of the city still present challenges in achieving climate goals.

Goodbye to
Extreme Weather”

In older buildings across New York, inefficient heating and cooling systems lead to higher energy consumption, putting additional strain on communities already struggling with steep energy bills.
Climate change amplifies these challenges, as extreme weather events like hurricanes and winter storms disrupt energy systems, making it even harder for the city to maintain a stable energy supply.

Cozy Space Through
New York’s Long, Freezing Winter”

The industrialization process in New York started in the late 19th century. Though it has made NYC prosperous, it has also brought many issues, including aging infrastructure, traffic congestion, and insufficient public services.
These historical legacy issues will hinder New York City’s sustainable development and reduce the overall quality of life for its residents.

SIA Chair
Driving sustainable development has become a shared global mission. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a clear roadmap for action, tackling critical challenges like ending poverty, fighting climate change, and promoting responsible consumption and production. As Chair of the “Sustainable Leadership · Building Future Cities Together” initiative, I know that solving these global issues isn’t just about government policies or nonprofit efforts—it’s about sparking innovation and building strong, cross-disciplinary partnerships.
This competition is about empowering young people to pitch real, scalable business ideas that promote social, environmental, and economic balance. At the same time, the art exhibition will spotlight work from talented young artists at New York’s top art schools, expressing their urgent and deeply personal perspectives on sustainability. New Land Capital is excited to partner with standout teams, using cutting-edge art, technology, and expertise to explore how cultural and artistic media can tell the story of sustainability in a way that’s more engaging, impactful, and meaningful.
We’re at a turning point, carrying the responsibility to create a greener, more equitable, and more vibrant future. Through the SIA initiative, we’re blending art and business to inspire collective action, driving everyone to embrace and build a sustainable tomorrow.
